FISU UNIVERSIADES

SUMMER UNIVERSIADE 2013 KAZAN, RUSSIA

The 27th Summer Universiade organised under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation will be held in the City of Kazan, Russia from 6 to 17 July 2011. A record number of 10,622 participants (7,142 athletes and 3,480 officials) from 151 countries participated in the 2011 Games held in Shenzhen, China that featured 24 sports. University Team South Africa, sponsored by the National Lottery, will hope to improve in 2013 on the 7 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze) won in China.

WINTER UNIVERSIADE 2013 MARIBOR, SLOVENIA

The 26th Winter Universiade organised under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation will be held in the City of Maribor, Slovenia from 30 January to 09 February 2013.  University Sport South Africa hope to send another student team, sponsored by the National Lottery, to compete at these prestigious Games.

SUMMER UNIVERSIADE 2011 SHENZHEN, CHINA

The 26th Summer Universiade organised under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation was held in the City of Shenzhen, China from 12 to 23 August 2011. A record number of 10,622 participants (7,142 athletes and 3,480 officials) from 151 countries participated in the Games that featured 24 sports. University Team South Africa, sponsorded by the National Lottery, comprised of 115 athletes (58 men and 57 women), 53 officials and 3 referees/umpires who participated in 14 sports, i.e. aerobics, archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics, chess, cycling, fencing, football (women), golf, rhythmic gymnastics, sports shooting, swimming, taekwondo and tennis. As usual in the year prior to the Olympic Games, competitions were of a very high standard with South Africa winning a total of 7 medals, i.e. 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze.

WINTER UNIVERSIADE 2011 ERZURUM, TURKEY

The 25th Winter Universiade organised under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation was held in the City of Erzurum, Turkey from 27 January to 06 February 2011.  A total of 2,437 participants (1,593 athletes and 844 officials) from 52 countries participated in the Games that featured 12 sports.  University Team South Africa, sponsored by the National Lottery, comprised of 2 female athletes (figure skating) and 2 officials.
