If the track can witness
Taipei is beckoning

The Chairperson of USSA Athletics after being re-elected to lead the student athletics body in September 2016 at the USSA Cross- Country event that was held at the University of Zulu land down in Richards bay promised nothing less than 12 medals if his charges are one of those heading up to Taipei for the 29th Summer Universiade.

For many years, the USSA Team had always returned with medals especially from the athletics team and that has also proved to be the case for our Olympic and Commonwealth Teams in global events. As part of their preparation for the 29th Summer Universiade a total of 7 Universities participated at the Brandvlei Sports Club Road race in Worcester on the 10th December 2016 as part of qualification for a spot at the USSA Athletics Team ahead of the Summer Universiade.

A number of other road running and walk races will in due course be advertised to give maximum opportunities for our athletes to qualify. The 2017 Track and field edition is scheduled to be in Cape Town between the 28 & 29 April 2017 which will serves as yet another opportunity for our student athletes to earn a spot in the team. The USSA Cross country champs are scheduled to take place later in the year down at Sol Plaatjie University in Kimberly.

USSA Athletics have been commended for its strong relationship with its mother body Athletics South Africa with a view that our athletes are channelled through proper developmental pathways until High Performance level.
