Kesa Molotsana to lead Cross County pack

The Athletics South Africa announced its team on Wednesday 08 March 2017 that will participate at the Iaaf World Cross Country event scheduled in Uganda (Kampala) on the 26th March 2017. It was no surprise too many to see the USSA cross country sensational Ms. Kea Molotsana a law student from the University of Free State. The Thaba Nchu born, KC as she is affectionally know in the athletics circles won the 2016 edition of the USSA Cross Country in the 8km category down in Richards Bay last September. The UFS student was part of the South African Team that participated at the CUCSA games where she won gold on the 5000m event. At the Athletics, South Africa Speed series event that was scheduled in Durban two weeks ago, she managed to achieve the required time for qualifying for the World Student Games scheduled for August in Taipei. The University Sport Community and USSA Athletics in particular is graced with an abundance of talent, at the Inaugural 2017 Varsity Athletics we saw the introduction of Dais Malebane a first-year student at the University of Pretoria who has also made the ASA Cross Country Team for the 8km event. At the same Varsity Athletics event, we saw the sensational Gift Leotlela also a first student at University of Pretoria breaking the Varsity Athletics record in the 200m event and set the new time of 20.56sec.

The 10km event for cross country have also witnessed the introduction of Sheriline Gerdeboom a student from the North-West University. Speaking to the Chairperson of the USSA Athletics Mr. Jazz Mnyengeza after the team announcement for the cross country, he stressed that it is still early in the year and just a month away from the USSA Athletics National Champs already athletes have started clocking the qualifying times that have been set. The World Student Games are still five months away and the team will only be announced end of May after consultation with Athletics South Africa and such will present a serious debate amongst ourselves due to the number of athletes that have already raised their hands for contention. You must also remember that the Athletics South Africa National Championships are also scheduled for next month and there are a lot of our athletes that will participate at that event including the Iaaf World Athletics Championships in London just eight days before the World Student Games according to the USSA Athletics Chairperson.
