Team South Africa lands in Taipei


The first group of the Team SA delegation landed safely in Chinese Taipei on Monday, 14 August 2017, after a lengthy connecting flight to the Summer Universiade.

Kitted out in their official Team SA tracksuits while in transit, locals couldn’t help but stare at the delegation, which comprised of the Chef de Mission, Mr Jerry Laka (University of Stellenbosch), logistics coordinator, Sibongile Maswanganye (University of Pretoria), Chief doctor Tshegofatso Gaetsewe, media officer, Nqobile Gama (University of Johannesburg) both football teams, men’s waterpolo and the gymnasts.

The delegation will be joined by the Deputy Chef de Mission, Mr ShadrackThangeni (Tshwane University of Technology), Chief physiotherapist, Chiney Hobbs and her team of five physiotherapistsand the following sporting codes: athletics, fencing, swimming and tennis, on Tuesday afternoon.

Team South Africa are on the quest to return home with 10 medals and will be competing in 10 sporting codes at the World Student Games namely; Athletics, Badminton, Football, Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Water Polo.

The rest of the South African delegation is expected to arrive by Wednesday, 17 August 2017, ahead of the official opening ceremony which is set to take place on Saturday, 19 August 2017.
