Team SA is welcomed to the athletes village in Taipei

The Head of the Athlete’s Village in Taipei welcomed delegations, including Team South Africa, to the village at the flag raising spectacle ahead of the official opening ceremony of the 29th Summer Universiade on Wednesday afternoon, 16 August 2017.

With the ninety-percentage of the South Africa delegation in Taipei, the flag raising ceremony was a gathering whereby teams were welcomed not only to the city of Taipei and to the games, but to the athlete’s village – a place they will call home, make friends and lasting memories for the next two weeks.

The order of events commenced with delegations being welcomed to the athlete’s village, followed by Taiwanese Aboriginal performance, an exchange of gifts between the Head of the Village and the head of each delegation, the ceremonious flag raising and was culminated with a group picture.

“The ceremony was great! We feel officially welcomed to Taipei”, said the charismatic head of the South Africa delegation, Mr Jerry Laka.
