TAIPEI, TAIWAN –Women’s 400m Universiade defending champion, Justine Palframan registers the third medal for Team South Africa this evening with a seasonal best time finish.
The Stellenbosch University honours student went into the women’s 400m event as one of the race favourites, and rightfully so. In round one, Palframan finished second in her heat with a semi-final qualifying time of 55.04. The semi-final saw her finishing with her first seasonal best time of the 29th Summer Universiade, 52.12.
Palframan finished second in tonight’s 400m final with another season best time of 51.83 to claim South Africa’s third silver medal of the games.
“There was definitely more pressure for me to perform at this edition of the games”, said the three time Universiade medalist, who was feeling content with her performance tonight.
The next event that Palframan is set to compete in, the women’s 4x100m relay is scheduled for 27 August 2017, 11h00am (05h00am CAT).
Despite Palframan’s win tonight, Team South Africa drops to the 39th position in terms of the medal standings. The Ugandans are currently ranked 33rd overall and the African medal forerunners with one gold and one silver medal.
