USSA News TUT captain signed by PSL club Elliot Seema becomes the latest Varsity Football graduate to join a PSL club, after Polokwane City signed the defender. There is a saying that the wolf climbing the hill is hungrier than the wolf on top of the hill. A Bulgarian proverb says “If you call one wolf, you invite the pack.” We certainly hope it’s the same case for Varsity Football. The successful graduation of one player to the Premier Soccer League will attract more players. It has often been said that Varsity Football is a perfect platform to develop talent. This concept is a big hit and it has proven time and time again that it is here to boost South African football. The players that are currently competing at the tournament are hungrier than the players that have already been given their break in the professional league. This week we were greeted with the news of Polokwane City, a professional football outfit based in Limpopo, unveiling their new players. After a long month of the transfer window, teams across the country officially unveiled their new signings and it was no difference for the Rise and Shine. But what caught my attention was the player that was wearing no.26. He is the reason that there should be wild celebrations for everyone that is associated with Varsity Football and in its five-year anniversary what better way to celebrate it than to see its product graduate to the PSL. The player that I am talking about is none other former TUT skipper Elliot Seema. The lanky tough-as-teak central defender graduated from MultiChoice Diski team to the Rise and Shine first team. Seema’s never-say-die attitude and passion for the game coupled with his hunger, led City to take note of his performances. The 24-year-old who hails from Limpopo was hungrier than the rest of the players during the 2016 campaign and his hunger paid off. His discipline, dedication and passion for the game sets him apart from the rest of the other players. Thabo Mnyamane burst into the scene back in 2013 as he went on to shine for AmaTuks and later joined SuperSport United. Seema, who has had a tough upbringing losing his mother at a young age, has finally fulfilled his childhood of being part of the PSL set-up. He shed tears of joy as he lifted TUT’s maiden Varsity Football title after they defeated UJ 2-1 at the TUT Stadium in 2016. Little did he know that his exploits would eventually be noticed by Polokwane City, a team that has recently made history by finishing in the Absa Premiership top 8 bracket for the first time in their history. Polokwane City is a team that has the honour of being the first team in the league to defeat Tshwane, reigning African champions and Premiership record winners with seven titles, Mamelodi Sundowns, at home just before the FIFA international break. Breaking out of Varsity Football is all about the hunger to succeed and the will do it. In this case Seema showed both and he is well on his way to making his first professional debut. This is a cause for celebrations. What would life be without dreams? We wish the towering defender the best of luck in his PSL career. I’ve had a couple of personal chats with the player and can attest to the hunger, desire and commitment to breakthrough, into the starting line-up at City. He is a true example of how hard work pays and I certainly hope that his move to greener pastures will attract a pack, as the Bulgarian proverb goes. I hope to see more wolves at the bottom of the hill showing hunger to reach the top of the hill. Well, in this case I hope to see hungry players striving to get their names into the books of PSL teams.
