Welcome back message to members January 2018
On behalf of the National Executive Committee let me take this opportunity to welcome you all back for the new year. I hope and trust that you had a rested period over the festive season. We also welcome the new students and who will be joining our various higher education institutions and of course the student-athletes who will join our USSA family in 2018.
Let me also congratulate Ms. Sheila Lekalakala after she had been appointed as the new Head of Sports at the Central University of Technology.
The year 2018 is filled with possibilities and promises to be one of great hope and to create an enabling environment for us to achieve more, the National Executive Committee had its strategic planning workshop early December in 2017. The workshop focused on key areas around the business and the operation of USSA and more in this regard will be shared with members and sports associations at the upcoming USSA Annual General Meeting. To enable the implementation, monitoring & evaluation, and reporting of the key objectives identified, committees and working groups are in place.
As reported at the Council meeting held in October 2017, USSA is in a process of moving all its registration and affiliations process into an online platform, I am happy to report that phase one of this processes have been completed late December. The National office in the coming week will communicate with members about a planned workshop for sports officers so that they can be able to start registering all their athletes and officials that compete at the various USSA events. The FISU Executive had decided that there will be a total of 37 World University Championships for the year 2018 and USSA had a potential to compete in 14 but after a long deliberation between the National Office and Sports Associations I am happy to announce that the USSA NEC has approved the following 10 codes for participation at the 2018 edition of the World University Championships.
a. Cross Country
b. Golf
c. Beach Volleyball
d. 7’s Rugby
e. Karate
f. Cycling
g. Rowing
h. Squash
i. Chess
j. Netball
We are confident that the codes will be great ambassadors and some have already started with their fundraising initiatives and work with the National Federations in terms of support has also been undertaken. This year we shall also be competing at the 19th CUCSA Games that are to be held in Botswana from the 18- 22 June 2018. The circular with proposed codes has been received from the Local Organising Committee and more information about the games will be shared with members and Sports Associations after the CUCSA meeting which is scheduled for the 16th February 2018 in Botswana. The FASU Games are also scheduled to take place this year at the University of Makele in Ethiopia from the 02 -06 July 2018, the University of Johannesburg hosted the FASU LOC late last year for a fact finding mission as they hosted the games jointly with Tshwane University of Technology in 2016.
A reminder to inform the Head Office of any developments on your part for us to share it on our various communication platforms.
May you have a blessed and successful 2018.
