Passing of former SAU Cricket President

The USSA Cricket family is saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Kotie Grové, the well-known cricket commentator who had a long and illustrious career at the Nelson Mandela University. Prof Grové served the university for 44 years, first as professor of classical studies and Dean of Students at the former University of Port Elizabeth and then as CEO of the NMMU Trust before retiring in 2014. He was also intensely involved in the University’s cricket club.

He also worked as Director of Special Projects for the University of Stellenbosch until the end of last year. Just a few days before his passing, he was still active behind the microphone at SuperSport commentating on his beloved game of cricket.

Prof Grové recently passed away at the age of 71 after battling with cancer for five years. He served as the SA Universities (SAU) Cricket President for a period of 13 years.

Rest in peace, Prof…you will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.

A memorial service will be held at St Georges Park in Port Elizabeth on Friday, 24 August at 12:00.
