University Sport South Africa (USSA) has produced four players for the national women’s team currently on tour. USSA being the custodian of University Sport is proud to constantly produce players of such a high calibre, which proves that Universities are investing in sport and these are the results.
The four are; Babalwa Latsha (Vice-captain) from University of the Western Cape (UWC), Lusanda Dumke from University of Fort Hare (UFH), Snenhlanhla Shozi from Walter Sisulu University (WSU) and Lindelwa Gwala from University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN). The quad will write their final exams in January 2019.
The tour included fixtures against, UK Armed Forces, Wales, Italy and Spain. This is in preparation of the World Cup in 2021.The Team is coached Stanley Raubenheimer, and he had this to say about the team, "I am pleased with the quality of the team. There is a good mix of youth and experience, which is perfect as we start building towards something bigger and better for women’s rugby in South Africa."
These girls successfully balance their studies and sport, and know and value education. Latsha and Shozi recently represented South Africa at the Sevens World Cup in the United States of America (USA), while Gwala and Dumke represented at the Rugby 7s World University Games in Namibia this year. With all this international experience the girls will add value to the 2019 rugby season both for University Sport and their respective provinces.
USSA Rugby wishes the girls well and we hope the team will make us proud.
