USSAWomenUP Campaign - Ilze Wicksell

IIze Wicksell’s (USSA Judo General Secretary) involvement in the sports industry came about through her being a former national athlete and always having had a passion for sport. She believes that women’s sensitivity and compassion assists women in understanding and guiding the young athlete on various levels.

’’I definitely believe the stereotype of sport being manly has changed and more females are getting involved. It’s very exciting for me that more females are getting involved in the sports industry’’, she said.

Things about working in sport that she’s gained and which will benefit her throughout her life are people skills, patience, learning to be a mentor and needing to be a role model for young athletes. She says that these help a woman to be a better mother to her kids and society.

IIze is driven by her passion, adrenaline, excitement (setting and working towards a goal), being kept young and active and not being office bound.
