USSAWomenUp Campaign - Nosipho Khumalo
Nosipho Khumalo (USSA Table Tennis General Secretary), a former footballer, who’s career got put to an early end due to a lack of opportunities, came into the industry in order to bring about change for women who dream about a career in football.
‘’Being a woman in the sports industry is a game itself. A game that we are now changing and soon to be breaking. Our edge will be forcefully shown like the likes of my fellow sister, Caster Semenya’’, she said.
Khumalo holds the view that women’s increase in number, in the sports industry, strongly depends on the treatment shown to them. ’’We have proven ourselves. The dedication and performance is enough evidence on why we deserve the greater opportunities and support’’, she said.
The industry has taught her the importance of being a game changer and setting the pace as well as how important it is to start the game, enduring the pain until the very end. It has also greatly shown her the value of supporting each other and how far little words of encouragement can push someone.
Nosipho is driven by the fact that every time she’s in a sports meeting, she’s the only woman. ‘’Being there is starting the game and now it’s about getting us to fill the room and hold the trophy together’’, she said.
