USSAWomenUP Campaign - Nicolene Marais

Nicolene Marais has been active in all kinds of sports since she was a young girl.’’ If it wasn’t for triathlon and duathlon, I wouldn’t have discovered my love for cycling. Since then, I’ve been much more involved in cycling and wouldn’t change a thing about it. Cycling took me places I could never dream of going’’, she said.

She thinks that the fight of today’s women is an advantage because they strive to be better and get equal advantages to men, which gives women the courage to evolve.

To her, the number of women in the sports industry is on the rise. ‘’Women work just as hard to compete in the same events and give equal outcome as well as entertainment. Cycling within South Africa and around the world has increased a lot. There are numbers of inspirational women out there that inspire our young cyclist to become better and improve themselves to become part of this incredible sport’’, she said.

The sports industry has taught her to have courage, self-confidence, self believe and a fighting heart to never give up on life no matter who comes in one’s way to drag one down.

Nicolene is driven by her love of sport, the thrilling and blood pumping moment, the chance to better herself in every situation and the talent that her Heavenly Father gave her to take part in the sport.
