USSAWomenUP Campaign - Takalani Mfamadi

Takalani Mfamadi (USSA Basketball General Secretary) fell in love with sport at a very young age. It was at that time that she realised that she was quite good at every sport she took part in. It was only natural that her path to working in the sports industry was a given.

Takalani is adamant that women have an advantage over men in the industry when she said, ‘’most women in the industry have both beauty (not appearance) and brains which is what gives them the edge. Women do almost everything with class and that is an edge and an advantage over men that they can only dream to have.’’

Mfamadi agrees that the number of women’s involvement in the industry will increase and thinks that they are going to be even more fierce and equipped than they ever were. ‘’Sport for women is more recognised now and is growing at an incredible pace. The ones coming in will not only enjoy the perks but will hold the baton of making sure that they take our industry to an even higher level than what it is’’, she said.

Sport has taught Takalani how to be humble, how to carry herself and how to respect people regardless of their colour, race or wealth. It has taught her to be herself around people, to connect with people, work with them and work for them. It has also taught her love.

She’s driven by the love and respect people in the industry have for each other. The amount of growth that one can experience. The great places she would still like to visit and the people that she’s yet to meet.
