USSAWomenUP Campaign - Carole Adam

Sport has been in Carole Adam’s (USSA Aquatics Chairperson) blood since she was a young girl. ‘’I couldn’t wait to get to school because I knew I was going to be involved in some kind of sport either before or after school. This continued post school when I was a student-athlete and when I starting coaching so I have always been involved in sport in one way or another. When I joined the IIE’s Varsity College I saw it as a way to continue with my passion for sport and give back to the industry that gave me so many memories and long lasting friendships’’, she said.

Carole is absolutely certain that more women will come into the industry because the trend has already started changing from a conscious decision to employ more women in key positions in industry, to one where women are being appointed in positions on a merit basis because they are the right person for the job and not just because of their gender.

For Carole, playing sport at a competitive level provided her with a great foundation for her working career in that it taught her discipline and how to gain a good work life balance. ‘’I’ve carried this philosophy with me through into my working career. I believe work life balance is so important, it makes you a better employee and person, plus being disciplined helps you get through a lot more things in your day which can make you a more effective employee’’, she said.

She’s driven by seeing the growth and development of student-athletes. ‘’Sport also has the unique ability to bring people together and it’s the unity that sport provides which keeps me motivated’’, she said.
