USSA Softball in quest for better results


Tshwane- The USSA Softball teams entered the third day in preparation for the SA National Championships. The USSA Team for both men and women are regarded as the tenth Province for all SA Softball National Championships that takes place in March annualy. The 2017 edition is scheduled from the 22- 26 March 2017 in Crawford -Tshwane. Both USSA teams have arrived in camp on the saturday of the 18 March 2017 in a quest to improve their last year position where they ended up outside the top six.

The USSA Softball women team will prove to be serious medal contenders this year due to the fact that all players selected were available and the team also boast with the inclusion of the Ms. Nomsa Mabuza from VUT who has been part of the SA Softball World Series sqaud. Speaking to the Team Coach Mr. Raymond Matlala who has commended the dedication shown by his team, he further stressed that after the selection of the team late last year there has been regional preparations ever since and his team members are active club players in their local domestic league.

At the conclusion of this championships on Saturday, a SA National Team will be announced both for the U/19 and Seniors that will partcipate at the World Series taking place in Canada and America later in the year. As proven in the past USSA tend to have many players both in the U/19 and Senior Women Team that became part of the World Series Squad. The USSA Teams will kick start their competition against the Gauteng Province on Wednesday 22 March 2017 at 08H00am and 10H00am respectively. The sport of softball has grown tremendously in our institutions and a road show for USSA Members in KZN and Western Cape is planned for later in the year.
