USSA Presidential Voice – April 2017 Theme: The Possibilities of University Sport in South Africa and Beyond
Dear USSA Family members
It has been two weeks since our Annual General and Special General meetings with a newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) in place. For the first time in the history of university sport, the NEC consist of almost 70% student representation. As indicated during my closing remarks, I was very impressed with the student leadership engagement at the meetings and reminded staff members of our responsibility to continue to nurture student leadership. Just imagine the possibilities of future investment and commitment through creating an enabling environment of leadership development at all levels within the USSA Family!
The Zanders in their book mention to find the right framework and extraordinary accomplishment becomes an every-day experience. This 1st edition of the USSA President’s corner is an invitation to all of us to become part of USSA’s possibilities that will lift us from that world of norm to that of different, new, creative and innovative. For USSA it is important that we present different features of our approach and find a new practice for bringing possibility to life.
The USSA President’s corner will on a monthly basis focus on the features and approach which will be informed by consultation with a number of key stakeholders, led by the NEC and MANCO.
With our focus on the 2017 Universiade / World Student Games due to take place in Chinese Taipei from 19 – 30 August we urge our sport leadership, student-athletes, coaches, support and medical teams to continue their commitment that will ensure the selection of the best teams. Our teamsare our brand ambassadors and have the responsibility to fly the flag high of our beautiful country and we continue to count on your support.
Let us remain steadfast to thrive through the lens of opportunity our beautiful and sport loving country presents to us.
USSA Family greetings and blessings.
